I have a new article published in my favorite venue, Ms. Magazine. It’s about women’s and LGBT choruses, a significant part of social equality movements past and present. As a former professional and academic musician, it took me quite a while to process the toxicity that, sadly, characterizes so much music-making. Singing with women’s and LGBT choruses helped me reunite with the music practices I love, in a way that reinforces my community activism rather than merely decorating the status quo. It’s the only kind of music I do anymore (currently seeking feminist chorus in north Texas!). Feminist voices making feminist choices!
