Yellowjackets is about teenage girls in the ’90s, a subject I know a few things about because I was one. It is always an honor to publish with Ms. magazine, and in my latest, I discuss YJ‘s portrayal of that rather benighted period in the history of feminism, when many mistakenly believed we lived in a postfeminist and postracial society. On Fridays during Season Two, I’m posting outtakes on Twitter, stories of how mixed-up many of us were in the ’90s regarding issues of gender and race. Why? Because some people in the US want to take critical theories away from us, and these stories show why we need them.
